A niche is defined by Thoughtco as The term niche, when used in the science of ecological biology, is used to define an organism’s role in an ecosystem. … A niche may also encompass what the organism eats, how it interacts with other living (biotic) elements, and also how it interacts with the nonliving (abiotic) aspects of the environment, as well.

3. Creating Content and Defining Audience
Content is key in digital marketing. Ensure to write a compelling post that can attract the attention of your audience. Write beautiful, interesting and attractive content that keeps your audience glued to your blog. Excite and interest your readers. Make them feel the intrigue, suspense if you post on movies and answer to their online search with details if possible.
Whether you are posting for social media or search engine marketing, if you have a poor content that can not cut across or get users attention, then you missing it. There are mistakes you need to avoid in content marketing so as to have a higher success rate online.
You must understand there are things to note in content creation. Ask the following questions and try to think like your audience. Put yourself in the mind of the users.
Who are you writing for?
What problems do they have?
Is your content solving problems of your user?
What questions are users asking?
What are their pain points (touch points)?
Once you have answers to online questions people are asking, you have a clue of what and how to deliver your content. Craft your content around the problems your users have and then provide a thorough, detailed blog post that proffers the solution – how do your readers interact with your content.
Now the content creation depends on knowing how your target audience are relating.
Here are ways to define your audience:
- Create personas of your ideal reader. What kind of readers is your post for? For news or gossip blog it may be for majority of people but it means you have to be the first to post such gossip or news.
- Research where your ideal (prospect) readers hang out online and listen in on their conversations.
- I strongly advice to join forums and blog niche to find out what people are having challenges with and try to provide answers to them. I had this problem when i started and most of my post didn’t do well initially but once i understood what certain people want, post to solve their needs.
Now you have a clear understanding of how to define your target audience, you can now move to the next.
4. Attracting Traffic to your Blog
The best way to drive traffic to your blog is no means easy but with the right guides and application of correct online traffic principles, you will get traffic. There are tested ways to attract traffic to your website/blog
The above link shows you how you can generate traffic. There are number of ways you can share your content online but i will simply put a few in bullet below.
- Involve Search Engines Optimization
- Email Marketing
The use of social media to drive traffic has been seen to be a very useful tool in online marketing. This is because most of your audience are all hanging out in one social media platform or the other.
You should try and identify which social media platform they are hanging out on, What are they doing and when are they online. You must also understand that there are social media mistakes that you must avoid if you want to achieve success in blogging. You can also read social media marketing and it’s benefit to business.
Search Engine optimization is key to your online presence. you must know that there is relationship between content and SEO and you should know how does content help you increase your search ranking. For you to get your targeted audience, you need to structure your content to meet certain search terms and keywords. That is to make sure your articles are optimized properly.
There was a time when this meant stuffing your blog posts full of keywords. However, Search engines have grown smarter now and if you do so now you surely will attract penalties like Google Panda that deals with low or poor quality contents from people who just do keyword stuffing and other black hat trick. The emphasis now is on quality and value. Other things you can do to encourage a better performance on your blog is:
- Do a keyword research eg Google Keyword Planner Semrush, and other online tools to help you. Find out what people are searching for relative to your niche.
- Ensure there is keyword density in your post.
- Place your keyword in the title tag and use “alt tag” for any images you’re using within that post.
- Ensure to use the keyword in your meta description so you can provide information for your readers at a glance. This is no more a ranking factor but good to provide insight to your readers when searching online.
EMail marketing involves you building your customer or audience base through the use of e-mail.You might like to send your subscribers a weekly roundup of your best performing posts. Alternatively, you might want to send an email every time you update.
- Send your targeted readers’ solutions to their problem(s) in your post. What problem will your post solve for them?
- Encourage users to unsubscribe. It might seem counter-intuitive, but inviting people to opt-out of your list, will make sure the people left there will be the ones most interested in what you have to post.
The above marketing strategies above will help your traffic increase. Remember consistency is the key in anything you do, regardless of how many times you post(daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly). Have a posting period – Select a posting pattern like a day and time to post – a frequency you’re comfortable with ( I recommend just once a week except you are into gossip, news, sports and so on where you have to post as they trend) and consistently publish at those times.
Summary of making success as a blogger are
- Be consistent
- Have a posting frequency
- Have a good, effective and distributive channels for delivering your post.
- Understand your audience and write to offer them value for their search need.
5. Making Money
This is the rewarding part of being a blogger. Money! money!! money!!! Yes why am i stressing the word? This is because most if not all bloggers are now there for sake of making money but most of them forget about “value”. As a new blogger, you may find it very difficult to make money initially if you doubt ask the big bloggers in the field today.
You will find out it involves a lot of hard work. Hard work is key to success. A speaker once said that if your predecessor who is successful is doing ten push up, you do eleven if you wish to be successful.
The avenues to make money online are:
What is affiliate marketing? We define Affiliate marketing as the process of earning a commission by promoting other people’s (or company’s) products/services. You find a product you like, promote it to others and earn a piece of the profit for each sale that you make.
There are many affiliate marketing programs out there for international bodies and there are some within Nigeria. Some you might consider using internationally:
Then for Nigeria, Affiliate programs to consider are
- Jumia affiliate program
- Konga affiliate program
- DealDey affiliate program
- Kaymu affiliate program
The key with affiliate programs is to just promote products you have understanding of. This gives you context and authenticity when you recommend them to your readers.
It is a good practice not to promote just any how thing. Keep it relevant to you audience, your blog, and your existing content.
Use of Adsense
This involves applying to Google for them to use spaces on your blog to display adverts. I bet you must have visited websites and seen adverts showing up on some strategic points on the website. These are ads from Google which they called Google adsense. For advertisers, they use Google Adsword and when they place bids, their bids are what you that owns a blog that has been accepted by Google to be their adsense agent that the ads will show up on the blog. Make money using Google adsense
If you have a prodcut you can write about it and encourage value through what that product can offer.
How long does it take to make money blogging?
Blogging takes a lot of hours per week to build and maintain a quality blog. A lot of hard work goes into it. It also takes many months of blogging before you will see income from it.
I tell new bloggers it can take months even years depending on the level of hard work you put in. Except you have an influencer talk about your blog, it may take time and can be difficult break out online. If you do not understand how online activities works, you may be going in circles until you do it right. Blogging for me is an act.
The idea that you can start a blog today and make a full-time income from it almost immediately within a few months is, for most of the time, not realistic. Amy lynn Andrews wrote something about how to make money as a blogger and i took some excerpt from her.
She stated that There is simply too much to learn and too much to build (your site, your content library, your social media presence, your trustworthiness, relationships with readers, etc.). If you need money right away, building a blog may not be your best option.
Wrapping it up
Alas! Do not be discouraged, The first thing i will tell new blogger is be yourself, be unique and be consistent. Never give up, keep pushing, keep working and keep it real. Create a niche for yourself and deliver value for that is the way to succeed.
