Often times laptops shuts down abruptly without any pre-information or you shutting it down yourself. Now this is not normal as if it is not taken care of in time, it may lead to further harm than good to such laptop.

2. Hardware Failure
When a laptop shuts down abruptly, it can also be caused by hardware failure. When there is a hardware failure, this can make your laptop to unexpectedly shut down.
The hardware to check first are as follows: RAM, CPU, your motherboard, power supply and your video card.
