When you insert your MTN Sim into a new Smartphone or another phone, the network configuration is usually sent automatically. But in a situation where by you do not get your APN settings sent to you, then this post is to help you do this without stress.
How to Activate APN/Internet browsing settings on MTN?
MTN internet services gives you access to browse with your mobile phone directly or use the mobile phone as a modem to connect your laptop or any other device to the internet using mobile Hotspot.
There are two ways to get your APN settings on the go. First is to send a text to MTN Nigeria network through code. The other is to manually configure your phone to start browsing without waiting for MTN to send the APN configuration settings.
To get your 3G/3.5G/GPRS settings automatically, simply text SETTINGS to 3888 using your MTN Nigeria sim.
You can also manually configure your mobile phone using the following settings.
MTN APN Settings
Account name: MTN GPRS
Access point name (APN): web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net
Port: 8080 (for HTML) or 9201 (for WAP)
Port 8080 is recommended except if your mobile phone supports only WAP.
To check that you have the right Proxy settings on your Smartphones, kindly follow the steps below;
- Go to Settings
- Click More Network or Mobile Network
- Click Access Point Name
- Click MTN GPRS or MTN WEB
- Remove the Proxy IP address: 10.199.212.2 if you find it on yours
- Remove the Port setting: 8080 if you have issues. You may leave it
- Then save and browse again.
