1. Block a stolen or lost phone using IMEI number

To use this method, firstly, you need to understand what IMEI is.

What is IMEI?

As defined by the IMEI: The IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique number to identify GSM, WCDMA, and iDEN mobile phones, as well as some satellite phones. Phones are designed to have one IMEI number, but in dual SIM phones, they are two.

What is IMEI used for: The IMEI is only used for identifying the device and has no permanent or semi-permanent relation to the subscriber. The number is used by the GSM network to identify valid devices and therefore can be used for stopping a stolen phone from accessing the network in that country.

IMEI are the four letters that stay for the unique identifier of the mobile device. Every phone has its IMEI code. It is independent of the SIM card you use. Most phones IMEI can be seen or gotten by simply dialing a short code *#06# . This is an exception for some SAMSUNG phones.

2. Block a stolen or lost phone without IMEI number

This part of the post is for those who may not have their IMEI details.

Method 1 to block phone

You may request your mobile network carrier to block the SIM card as they can not be able to block such mobile device. This way no one impersonates you with your SIM card,

Method 2 to block phone

This method is when you bought your phone from any mobile network carrier, you can easily ask the mobile operator to block your device even without telling them your IMEI number. How is it possible? Mobile networks can access their clients ‘call list’.

All that is required is a confirmation of your identity (make sure that you are the original device owner) and then it can block your mobile device. All you have to do is make a request through customer support and identify yourself.

3. Block stolen phone using Find My iPhone for an iPhone

With a pc or Mac, visit https://www.icloud.com/ in your web browser.

  • This will only work if Find My iPhone is enabled on your iPhone

Sign in to iCloud. Enter the email address and password associated with your Apple ID. If you’re already logged into iCloud, skip this step.

Click Find iPhone. It resembles a radar screen on the iCloud dashboard. Click All Devices. This displays a list of all your Apple devices.

Click the device you want to lock. It is listed below “All Devices” at the top of the screen.

  • If your iPhone is the only Apple item listed on your Apple ID account, you may not have to do this step.

Click Lost Mode. It’s at the bottom of the window on the right side of the webpage. Doing so will open a new page in the window. then enter your phone number if you want it to display on your missing device.

Select Next. If you want, you can choose to enter a custom message asking the finder of your missing device to contact you or leave the default message which is “This iPhone has been lost. Please contact me.” You can use this message or type your own . This number will display on your iPhone’s locked screen. Then select Activate.

This will place your iPhone in Lost Mode, meaning that it won’t be unlockable or usable until you remove it from Lost Mode.

You can deactivate Lost Mode by clicking Lost Mode and then clicking Stop Lost Mode at the bottom of the drop-down menu.

Remotely erase your iphone device

This is cool to safeguard your personal information on your iphone. To prevent anyone from accessing the data on your missing device, you can erase it remotely. This ensures that all of your information (including credit, debit, or prepaid cards for Apple Pay) is deleted from the device, and you won’t be able to find it. To delete remotely using Find My iPhone :

  1. Open the Find My app and tab the Devices tab.
  2. Select the device you want to remotely erase.
  3. Scroll down and choose Erase This Device.
  4. Select Erase This [device].

4 Block stolen phone using find my device for an Android

1 From a PC or Mac, use your web browser and visit https://www.google.com/android/find 

2 Log into your Google account. Enter the email address and password for the Google account on the Android device you want to find or lock.

3 Click the icon for the phone that you want to lock down. The phone icons are in the upper-left corner of the webpage.

4 Click Secure Device. It’s the second tab in the left sidebar menu on the webpage. This opens two text boxes below the “Secure Device” header.

5 Type a message. This message will display on the lock screen while your phone is locked. This is optional but recommended.

6 Type a recovery phone number in the “Phone number” text box. This phone number will be displayed on your Android’s lock screen while your phone is locked. Be sure to type a phone number you can be reached at.

  • As with the recovery message, this step is optional but recommended.

7 Click Secure Device. This is a green button at the bottom of the “Secure Device” header in the menu on the left. This place your Android under a lock, making it nearly impossible for someone to break into it or access your data.Click Security Checkup to review recent activity on your phone.   • Click the green button that says Erase Device.
  • Enter your Google password, if prompted.
