The need for laptop has grown tremendously over the past couple of years. As technology advancement encroaches, our daily activity now demands more for the use of laptops. Students now makes use of laptop in educational activities and research.
When considering to choose a laptop, You need look at the need for such laptop. Ask yourself the following questions.
What do I need a laptop for? For business or Personal use
Note that Business users have a different need for laptop use than personal laptop users.
A graphics designers’ need for laptop is different from that of a web designer. An architect or an engineer have a different need for laptop use.
A student need for laptop is different from that of an individual who just wants a laptop for movies, typing and gaming.
Now with the few points stated above, it can be seen that these people have specific features which a laptop must possess. If you choose wrongly, it might be catastrophic and frustrating.
What to consider before buying a laptop
Before you buy a laptop, there are certain things to consider in making a right choice.
1. Screen Size & Type
When considering the type of laptop to use or buy, Size is a factor. Remember that if you choose a small laptop, you cannot upgrade or change the screen size except you get another laptop unlike how you may want to upgrade the RAM or ROM.
Hence, I strongly advice you choose wisely.
Some Laptop size ranges from 11.6-inches to 17.3 inches. Some Laptop brands and OEMS like HP, Dell, ASUS and Acer offer three display sizes – 13.3-inch, 15.6-inch and 17.3-inches. However, some vendors do sell laptops that fall outside these sizes including 11.6-inches, 12.5-inches and 14-inches.
Suffice to say that if portability is your top priority, then go for a small sized laptop. Also if u are fond of watching movie and playing games on laptop, then you need go for a bigger screen laptop like 17inches. It is also recommended you go for HD screen with anti-glare features.
Note that if you are into professional job like engineer, architect, designers, you need big screen because some software like AutoCAD, Photoshop, CorelDraw need a particular screen size to work.
This is also a determinant in choosing the spec of laptop to buy. All laptops have their specifications and of course this is a factor of price. As the higher and better the spec of laptop, the greater the cost.

3. Operating System
This can also be considered before buying a laptop. Here I will be talking about the network operating system.
Examples of network operating systems include Microsoft Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Windows Server 2008, UNIX, Linux, Mac OS X, Novell NetWare, and BSD.
The type of operating you use determines the type of application that runs on it. For windows user, they cannot use Mac applications and vice versa. Moreso, a 32bit cannot use 64bit. So, choose wisely based on the type of application and interface you use.

This depends on the demand for space to store files. If you are a software develop or programmer, you definitely agree with me that your demand for disk space will be high as most of these applications are heavy and use up much space.
If you are a movie lover or picture freak, you need more storage to store all your docs, videos, pictures, software and other files.
More so, they require more Ram Space which will be discussed next. Whether the system uses (Solid State Drive) SSD or (Hard Disk Drive) HDD for storage, they have their advantages and disadvantages.
Most low-priced laptops come with 120Gb HDD. This you can increase by buying a larger capacity and replacing the old one.
Note that SSD perform task in fraction of seconds and are faster than the HDD type. So you can see that somehow budget as explained above has a role to play in choosing a laptop.

Wikipedia defined Random-access memory (RAM) as a form of computer data storage that stores data and machine code currently being used. A random-access memory device allows data items to be read or written in almost the same amount of time irrespective of the physical location of data inside the memory.
A random-access memory device allows data items to be read or written in almost the same amount of time irrespective of the physical location of data inside the memory.
A 2GB RAM is ok For low system users like those that just want to watch movies, save pictures, chat, surf the net, check emails and so on. But for those that are into certain professions like graphics designer, engineering, architecture, video editors, you need a laptop with higher RAM say 4GB to 8GB RAM size for optimum performance.
The beauty here is that if you previously have a laptop with low RAM size, you can simply upgrade it by increasing the RAM size.
The Central processing unit (CPU) is the brain of the computer that processes instructions. It processes the data and produces output, which may stored by an application or displayed on the screen.
Whether you’re pressing a key or opening a file, the processor is what that executes the command.
Some of the processors are intel Pentium, Intel Xeon, Intel Celeron, core i3, core i5, core i7.
For the best performance, we’d recommend opting for an Intel Core i7 CPU, as it’s good for multimedia tasks. For web development, programming, music or photo editing software, ensure you use a processor with a multi-core setup.
The higher the cores you have, the better the performance experienced.
7. Battery Life
A major factor for me when buying a laptop is the battery. The fact that a laptop is portable and can be moved from place to place need battery with more capacity.
A poor battery will have adverse effect on your work as the system may go off when you in the middle of something serious and you may not be close to a power source. Most low priced laptops have short battery life.
I recommend you get a laptop with minimum of 3hours battery life.
Connectivity here takes cognizance of USB ports, Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth. Some laptops need adaptors to connect and this is not advisable as without such adaptors, you may not be able to carry out such task. For instance when you cannot connect to internet direct unless you adapt it.
I’d recommend getting a laptop with a couple of USB 3.0 ports. If you have a printer and a mouse plugged in, you may need additional ports to allow for connection to phone or memory card. Some Laptops have about 4 ports to allow for more plug in.
9.Mind the Brand
Th brand of a laptop also matters. I recommend using or buying brands that have been tested and trusted. The leading laptop brands known are HP, Dell, Apple, Lenovo, Microsoft, Asus just to mention but a few.
Other things to consider when you want to buy a laptop are Keyboard, Touchpad, warranty. If you have any issue or need help, leave a comment or chat live below.
