For this post. we will discuss On-page SEO techniques here for more understanding of how to do SEO effectively. It recommended that you use these points summarized below.

  • Use the keyword phrase: In the title tag at least once. Try to keep the keyword phrase as close to the beginning of the title tag as possible.
  • At least two or three times, including variations, in the body copy on the page. Perhaps a few more times if there's a lot of text content. You may find additional value in using the keyword or variations more than this, but in our experience adding more instances of a term or phrase tends to have little or no impact on rankings.
  • Make use of the alt attribute for images on the page. This not only helps with web search, but also image search, which can occasionally bring valuable traffic.
  • Make use of meta description tag does not get used by the engines for rankings, but rather helps to attract clicks by searchers reading the results page, as the meta description becomes the snippet of text used by the search engines.

Use of Meta Tags

Meta tags were originally intended as a proxy for information about a website's content. i have written some of the basic meta tags below, along with a description of their use.
  • Meta Robots
  • The Meta Robots tagcan be used to control search engine crawler activity (for all of the major engines) on a per-page level. There are several ways to use Meta Robots to control how search engines treat a page:
    1. index/noindex tells search engine crawler whether the page should be crawled and kept in the engines' index for retrieval.
    2. follow/nofollow tells search engine crawler whether links on the page should be crawled. If you select to employ "nofollow," the engines will disregard the links on the page for discovery, ranking purposes or both.
    3. noarchive is used to restrict search engines from saving a cached copy of the page.
    4. nosnippet informs the engines that they should refrain from displaying a descriptive block of text next to the page's title and URL in the search results.
  • Meta Description
  • The meta descriptiontag exists as a short description of a page's content. Search engines do not use the keywords or phrases in this tag for rankings, but meta descriptions are the primary source for the snippet of text displayed beneath a listing in the results.

How to Select Keywords

Getting Started with SEO Keyword Research The first task is simply brainstorming. Ask yourself some basic questions to select keywords that might make good targets for search engine optimization, like:

  • What is your website content about?
  • What are people searching for online?
  • Where are users usually spending their time online?
  • How do they interact with your most popular pages/items about?

Questions to ask in keyword selection

Ask youself if the keyword is relevant to your website's content? Will searchers find what they are looking for on your site when they search using the keywords you used? Will they be happy with what they find? Will this traffic result in goals? If the answer to all of these questions is a clear "Yes!" then proceed ...
Search for the term/phrase in the major engines. Try to Understanding which websites already rank for your keyword. This will give you valuable insight into the competition, and also how hard it will be to rank for such term.

Understanding the Long Tail of Keyword

It has been shown from research that targeting long tail keywords gives better ranking than the generic short keywords which are most times in higher competitive demand. The long tail contains hundreds of millions of unique searches that might be conducted a few times in any given day, but, when taken together, comprise the majority of the world's search volume. Another thing to note is that long tail keywords often convert better, because they catch people later in the buying/conversion cycle. A person searching for "bags" is probably browsing, and not ready to buy. On the other hand, someone searching for "best price on gucci bags" definitely is ready to cash out! Understanding the search demand curve is critical. To the right we've included a sample keyword demand curve, illustrating the small number of queries sending larger amounts of traffic alongside the volume of less-searched terms and phrases that bring the bulk of our search referrals

How To Choose URL

URL Construction Guidelines
  • Employ empathy
  • In getting a URL, Place yourself in the mind of a searcher and look at your URL. Try make your URL is appropriately descriptive as possible. You don't need to spell out every last detail in the URL, this can make it cumbersome.
  • Shorter is better
  • While a descriptive URL is important, minimizing length and trailing slashes will make your URLs easier to copy and paste (into emails, blog posts, text messages, etc.) and will be fully visible in the search results.
  • Keyword use is important (but overuse is dangerous)
  • If your page is targeting a specific term or phrase, make sure to include it in the URL. However, don't go overboard by trying to stuffin multiple keywords for SEO purposes; overuse will result in less usable URLs and can trip spam filte
  • Use hyphens to separate words
  • Not all web applications accurately interpret separators like underscores (_), plus signs (+), or spaces (%20), so instead use the hyphen character (-) to separate words in a URL, as in the "googlefresh-factor" URL example above.

How to choose title?

Title Tags The title element of a pageis meant to be an accurate, concise description of a page's content. It is critical to both user experience and search engine optimization.
The recommendations below cover the critical steps to optimize title tags for search engines and for usability.

  1. Be mindful of length
  2. Search engines usually displays the first 65-75 characters of a title tag in the search results (anything above this is displayed as an ellipsis – "..." – this is to indicate when a title tag has been cut off). This is also the general limit allowed by most social media sites, so sticking to this limit is generally wise. However, if you're targeting multiple keywords (or an especially long keyword phrase), and having them in the title tag is essential to ranking, it may be advisable to go longer.
  3. Place important keywords close to the front
  4. The closer to the start of the title tag your keywords are, the more helpful they'll be for ranking, and the more likely a user will be to click them in the search results.
  5. Include branding
  6. This is cool for brands that are established though, In Digiconceptng we too like to tag our title with a brand name mention, as these help to increase brand awareness, and create a higher click-through rate for people who like and are familiar with a brand

Effect of user Experience and Content On Search Engine Ranking

Search engines have been known to improve their performance by providing the best (optimal) results to its users. So the search engine crawlers have a very good idea of the kinds of pages and sites that satisfy their user search. There is a post on How does content marketing help for keyword ranking and also effect of user experience on digital marketing on the blog. The SEO consideration, for ranking high are

    • Easy to use, navigate, and understand
    • Provide direct, actionable information relevant to the query
    • It must be Professionally designed and accessible to modern browsers
    • Deliver high quality, relevant and credible content

    • There are some limitations to search engines. They can't understand images, or watch video the same way a human can. In order to crawl or rank a content they rely on meta information (not necessarily meta tags) about how people interact with sites and pages, and this gives them insight into the quality of the pages.

The Impact of Usability and User Experience On search engine rankings

Search engines have it's limit in terms of the number of variables that it can take into consideration, including keywords, links, and site structure. However, through linking patterns, user engagement metrics, and machine learning, the search engines (algorithm) make a considerable number of intuitions about a given site. Usability and user experience are second order influences on search engine ranking success.
Usability has been known to provide an indirect but measurable benefit to a site's external popularity, which the search engine crawler can then interpret as a signal of higher quality. The moment you can create a useful, empathetic user experience, this will help ensure that visitors to your site perceive it positively thereby encouraging sharing, bookmarking, return visits, and inbound links—all signals that trickle down to the search engines and contribute to high rankings.
